A Winter Wedding in Blackwater Falls, West Virginia.

I grew up taking long drives through the West Virginia back roads with my parents. My folks had seen the interstate 79 built in the 1960’s, and during the 80’s and 90’s, chose to bypass it a lot. Especially on Sundays. We would end up all over the state. From The Holly River State Park to Elkins, from Cheat Lake to The New River Gorge Bridge. I got bored as an only child, but I can recall the days very well. I grew to appreciate them as we stopped doing them in my early teens. By the time I drove, we had stopped completely. I can still hear Tom Petty on the fuzzy radio as we drove along to places like Blackwater Falls. That’s where this post begins.

I was lucky enough to have to gotten to photograph a winter wedding at Blackwater Falls this past January. Sharee and Brian just wanted a small wedding, and I ended up being the photographer they chose to capture their day. Let me tell you, it was one of the best days of my life. It was raining throughout most of my trip there. I started climbing up the mountains into Thomas, and suddenly it was a snowy wonderland. The pines were blanketed in a thick snowcap, and the fog still lingered on the hills.

Check out my photos from that day in January.
